History
Dragon Realms was founded by StikDragon, Forfaox, Akhorishaan, and Etath in early December 2003, before opening to the public on December 2004. It had a kick-start with members migrating from the falling Silver Dragon Den to join this newly opened dragonkin community and gave it quick success.
StikDragon, Forfaox, and Akhorishaan were the main people involved of building Dragon Realms up as a working technical platform, and all were administrators/moderators at Silver Dragon Den during the building of Dragon Realms. Etath was more involved as a negotiator for the dragonkin on SDD and had many discussions with Yazzi to defend the members of the failing SDD. She made him see this event from the member's point of view and bringing him knowledge what being dragonkin really means, which ultimately made him give them the permission to do a mass-invitation of SDD's members to the very new-opened dragonkin community.
Rule management forum/IRC
Dragon Realms have a rather liberal management when it comes to minor changes. Moderation of the forums and IRC is done by the initiative of the individual moderator, such as editing/deleting of posts or stopping a chat conversation that is going against the rules and guidelines of Dragon Realms.
When more serious changes are done, such as performing a temporary/permanent ban of a member, several members of the management of Dragon Realms have to agree upon these actions. Ideally this should be agreed upon by all moderators, but often the decision needs to be taken quickly, and gathering the opinion of every moderator can often take several days. A ban is made permanent when there are no protests among the moderators.
Changes that affect Dragon Realms' structure, such as changing procedures or adding or removing forums, is done through voting and generally everyone should agree on the changes done, and if anyone voices against, matters are discussed, eventually changed or abandoned. The election of new staff members or changing of the rules, however, needs every member of the management of Dragon Realms to vote, and the final results need to be agreed upon by everyone before they are put into effect.
Current members of the rule management and their tasks
Administrators: Forfaox, StikDragon, Etath, and Akhorishaan. Global moderators: Vellos, Serpenthor, Ria, Shiari, and Tysha.
The duties of administrators and global moderators are mostly the same and cover all functions on the forum side of the community. Mainly moderating the members and forums, and participating in both member discussions and forum development discussions. In voting, the individual votes of moderators are equal to those of administrators.
The practical difference between administrators and global moderators is that only administrators can access the forum settings to ban members and edit members' profiles, such as positions and change password (if lost). However, administrators can not read what a member's current password is.
Member moderators: Sirius.
A member moderator's duties are, roughly, to moderate the members themselves. They participate on the voting process for member applications and also participate on member discussions, such as voting for a ban on the forum and/or the IRC.
IRC opers: Forfaox, StikDragon, Akhorishaan, Vellos, Serpenthor, and NearToTheSky. Main channel ops: ShimdraShaül and Sirius.
IRC opers and Main channel ops cover roughly the same area of responsibility; to moderate Dragon Realms' main channel #dragons. IRC opers also moderate the IRC network itself, but this is hardly ever necessary and most often the IRC opers only interfere with the functioning of the IRC network for solving technical issues.
Local moderators: Zeyelth (Introductions), and Duchess of Fire (Chit Chat).
Local moderators have responsibility for moderating just one board on the forum and have no responsibilities outside of this.
Logo
The logo of Dragon Realms was designed and drawn by Etath and depicts a dragon curled up into a circle. The intention of this symbol is to symbolise the continuity and stability of Dragon Realms, unlike what could be said about SDD after its fall, and many other sites. It came in 2 versions, 1 plain and simple, with four more versions where StikDragon modified the logo to include additional effects and art in different colours.
In August 2006 Etath redesigned the logo to give Dragon Realms a cleaner and more mature look, and the art seen in the background of the header of Dragon Realms is taken from an artpiece of hers called Moonwatching Dragoness. Dragon Realms now has five versions, 4 dark themed with red, blue, yellow, and green letters, and 1 bright skin. These skins can be changed from the user's profile page once they are logged in.
